Thanksto the 11 windows and large openings on all sides of this modern wooden cottage with mezzanine, you'll enjoy maximum light! Even at night, you'll be able to watch the starry sky from all four sides of your home! The high ceilings give you a real sense of space.

The Papillon flat-roof timber construction features a 10m² mezzanine, ideal for a comfortable, spacious bedroom, a living area of over 12m², with a bright living room, dining room and kitchen, plus a 4.2m² bathroom. All in all, almost 30m² of space without planning permission. Design the interior as you wish, and you'll feel right at home in a cosy, woodsy atmosphere!

A traditional home in a small space

The surface area of this outbuilding has been optimized to offer you all the comforts of a traditional home in a small space. Not only will you enjoy a wooded interior that brings you back to basics, but you'll also benefit from a home that consumes very little energy, thanks to natural, efficient insulation whatever the outside temperature.

With 17m² of living space on the first floor and 13m² of mezzanine, the Papillon, a mix of habitable garden studio and Tiny House, occupies only the space you need. It's quick and easy to install, and doesn't require planning permission!

The materials used

Quadrapol's design office chose spruce for the cladding of this functional and aesthetic garden studio by-product. In fact, in addition to being FSC and PEFC certified, this material offers a number of advantages.

Natural protection, with cladding made from a natural wood species highly resistant to external attack: insects, fungi, weather.

High-performance insulation: cladding combined with wood wool and glass wool, waterproofing and panelling provides excellent insulation. Thanks to its thermal insulation qualities, it helps reduce energy consumption in your home. The insulation is completed with a German-made vapour and rain screen.

Durable materials: opting for wood construction guarantees a long-term investment. A wooden house has no estimated lifespan. Take, for example, those wooden houses built hundreds of years ago in alpine pastures or medieval towns!

How to install the Papillon wooden loft?

Your Papillon is manufactured in our own workshop. Once finished, it is loaded onto a truck. It is then delivered assembled to its final installation site.

What are the foundations?

Like our Twenty Lodge garden studio, the Papillon doesn't require large, invasive foundations. It can be installed on solid cinder blocks or blocks. If you already have a slab, it can be used.

This is light housing. This means that your Papillon can be easily installed on the foundations using a crane. If you want to move it as your life unfolds, simply hire a lifting company and load it onto a low-bed truck. Your little wooden house will follow you wherever you go!

Papillon: a truly compact, transportable wooden loft

Designed for 4 people, the Papillon is a truly compact little wooden house par excellence. With a surface area of 30m2, an open-plan living area and a double mezzanine, it offers all the comfort you need, whatever its use: as a year-round or vacation home, or as a rental investment. It features a fixed double bed upstairs, and can easily accommodate two extra beds in the living room. This turnkey garden studio has it all!

Delivery of the assembled Papillon model

Each of our creations is assembled by our craftsmen in our own workshop. For the Papillon, allow 3 to 4 months for construction on our production site. Your little wooden house will then be delivered assembled, to the address you specify.

The history of the Papillon wooden loft

The Papillon small wooden house project was born in 2014. Built along the same lines as its little cousin, the Twenty garden studio, Papillon was a highly promising project. With its modern architecture, its functionality, with a real mezzanine with height, and its materials that are both ecological and high-performance. After several years of waiting, we finally built the project that had been so close to our hearts. The chrysalis that was still slumbering in the state of plans and 3D models has become a real Butterfly, even more beautiful than in our imagination.

A home for today's challenges

Papillon is ideal for gardens or small plots of land. With a footprint of 20m2, it's a perfectly optimized space, bathed in light and very well insulated. With a surface area of 30 m2, it offers all the comforts required for year-round occupancy. It's a home where everyone can find a housing solution in line with their values and life goals. And it doesn't require planning permission!

A self-sufficient, eco-friendly wooden cottage

The Papillon, like all our designs, can be self-sufficient, so install it on undeveloped land. No more bills, which is a real comfort with rising electricity prices. Thanks to its excellent thermal insulation and waterproofing, it can compete with passive houses. As a result, there's little need for heating. And that means much lower bills! With its main façade facing south, you can enjoy the warmth of the sun in winter.

European manufacturing

At Quadrapol, we use only European-made materials. The wood used is FSC or PEFC certified and comes from sustainably managed forests. We use wood or mineral wool for insulation, and German-made rain and vapour barriers for waterproofing. Germany is very advanced in the development of passive and ecological houses. We source a number of materials from them, including the wood used to build the structure: KVH.
