It's a question you've probably already asked yourself as part of your house, Tiny House or lodge project: what are the advantages of a wooden house?

Wood is a noble material whose advantages in construction have long been recognized. It has been used for centuries, for example in the construction of ancient villas.

Today, more than ever, it is regaining its importance in the construction sector. Environmentally friendly, it is a material of the future, helping to offset the pollution caused by the concrete building and construction sector.

Find out more today about the advantages of building with wood.

An ecological and sustainable alternative

First and foremost, wood is an environmentally-friendly material!

Our environment has been considerably polluted for decades, and the choice of materials used, particularly in the construction sector, is partly to blame. Indeed, the building industry is now the most polluting sector in France. Emitting large quantities of carbon into the air, it is even more polluting than the transport sector!

Wood construction, on the other hand, stores carbon! By way of comparison, if you choose to build a wooden house instead of a concrete one, you avoid emitting 55 to 60% of CO2 into the environment!

What's more, despite certain prejudices, wooden houses are far more resistant and durable than concrete ones. In the event of fire, for example, a wooden structure takes longer to give way, and doesn't release as many toxic gases as a traditional house.

Today, over 70% of all homes are built with concrete. It's time to change our habits!

A quality material

It's vital to use quality wood, and to select it with great care. Wood from sustainably-managed forests with FSC and PEFC certification helps to combat deforestation and guarantees the constant renewal of this resource.

Here are just some of the advantages of the species most commonly used in home construction.

Larch

Larch is a high-mountain wood found mainly in Northern Europe, Siberia and the Alps. It's a material that not only brings a unique aesthetic touch to your home, but also has many advantages.

First and foremost, it's a perfect natural insulator! Naturally sourced from cold regions, it is an excellent thermal insulator. An ideal material for those who want to live in the mountains!

Larch is a rot-resistant wood. This means it won't rot, even in contact with high humidity. It is also resistant to external attack, such as insects. This gives larch excellent durability.

Thermo-heated ash

The thermo-heating process makes ash rot-proof, making it perfect for the cladding of your trailer house. Thermo-heated ash is resistant to fungi, thermites and dry wood insects.

It's a material that adds a very pleasant, warm touch to your wooden home, thanks to its caramel-brown tones. Maintenance is simple and easy, whether you wish to keep its natural color or let it naturally gray.

Red Cedar

Red cedar is a prestigious wood, particularly found on Canada's Pacific coast. Its red-tone color is both aesthetic and unique. This noble wood naturally contains oils that make it resistant to external attack (humidity, insects, fungi). It is naturally fungicidal.

It's also a lightweight wood, perfect for those whose Tiny House furnishings are heavy. What's more, red cedar is low-maintenance and ages to an attractive silvery tone.
