A new Tiny House Colibri recently joined its owner, who took the time to answer our questions! We're sharing the details of her project with you today.
Why did you choose a Tiny House?
First of all, the idea of the Tiny House came to me after seeing some television reports, in particular one where a young student had chosen to live in a Tiny House during her studies, instead of taking an apartment. I chose the Tiny House for exactly the same reason. I wanted to be in the countryside, in the peace and quiet, not far from my family and in a place where I could feel at ease, like in a cocoon. Luckily, my parents had a large plot of land behind their house, which is not yet suitable for building, and it turned out to be the perfect place to put the Tiny.
How do you use your Tiny House? Would you like to move around with it?
My Tiny House is not designed to be moved. I chose to connect to my parents' house for water, electricity and drainage, for comfort and above all because I knew I wouldn't be moving it.
How did you arrange the space in your Tiny House?
For the layout, I went to visit the Tiny on display at the Carpentras site twice, to get a good idea of the volume and space I was going to have, and I watched blogs and videos on Tiny owners' layouts. I took lots of measurements and looked for accessories and furniture designed for very small spaces. I only bought what I really needed, and in the end I realized that there was so much storage space that I still had room to spare. What I wanted was not to overload the Tiny, so I opted instead for very small pieces of furniture, shelves and storage baskets.
Is there enough space for the various layouts?
I was really surprised by the storage space! I had no trouble fitting my things in, and I didn't have to make any concessions about what I could or couldn't take with me, because in the end it all fit and I still had plenty of room!
How did you get settled in?
Settling in was hectic. Even though I'd calculated everything, from the entrance to the gate, the path leading to the plot and the location, the delivery was perilous. The Tiny couldn't get in because the truck towing it was too long, so it was in danger of rubbing against the wall. It took several long minutes to find a solution to get the Tiny to its place. It was very stressful, but also so great to see it arrive, to discover it at last, to look at it in its place and say to myself: at last! She's here, I love her already, she's so beautiful!
How did the Quadrapol team support you in your project?
The Quadrapol team was very supportive of my project. Everything was very well organized, the different stages were well explained and above all, the team was really available and attentive. At first I found it confusing to communicate by e-mail and telephone with the people who were going to build my Tiny, because it's very different from when you're building your own house, where you meet the various tradespeople, but in the end, the team was so present for us that my worries were quickly dispelled and everything went very smoothly.
Many thanks to Lisa for her trust!
